Played in a normal room, my daughter hears the tone at 15Khz to 17Khz  
loud and clear.  My wife thinks she hears something.  I hear nothing  
at sound levels that my daughter claims are painful.

Hmmm...one more hazard of growing old, and a disappointment for a  
music lover.
